Unlocking Naval Contracts

Forts have control on specific regions in the map. Taking control of a fort has several benefits. First, the clouded area in that region will be cleared – revealing all primary and secondary locations, harpooning spots, etc. Second, the fort will attack any passing enemy ship, making it a good location to fall-back or fast-travel to in case you need to resupply or re-arm the Jackdaw. Forts also has animus fragments and chests, that count towards the overall 100% synchronization. Finally, you can accept Naval Contracts from the contractors in the forts' docks. These contracts are similar to Assassination Contracts, where most of them requires using your Jackdaw.

Taking over a fort is divided into two primary phases. The first one is taking out the fort defenses itself. You have to destroy all fort defenses.

After destroying all of them, you should dock and infiltrate the fort on foot. Once inside, you have to hunt down the officers running the fort. Don't bother joining the skirmish with the ordinary guards since their numbers won't go down. After taking out the officers, head to the War Room and kill the fort commander to complete take over the fort.
