Mission 2: City of the Damned

Looks like it's time for the interrogation to begin. Head down the corridor until a cutscene bars your way. And promptly whisks you back to the past. Looks like you have to locate the three sisters, who guard the power of chaos.

Diary: Near your starting point, slumped against a wall is the soldier's body.

Head into the large circular room and pull the lever. Looks like they have fully functioning elevators in the city of the damned. Good to know. Head out through the now open doorway for a cut-scene. Looks like your new best friend for this mission will be Medusa.

Diary: Behind a statue in this area, slumped on the ground is a soldier.

Void Gem: After the cut-scene, drop down on the lower ledge to the left to find the pain box.

Another corridor will open that leads to a blood caked room, and a fight. This time you get to meet one of the dungeon jailers. Large brutes who love charging at you (amongst other things). The jailer has a handful of attacks: A simple swing attack, in which he swings towards Dracula a few times. This is easy to block or dodge. His aforementioned charge attack that is unblockable and can deal a large chunk of damage (but is really easy to dodge). He can also punt his smaller minions around the room (like green turtle shells in a Mario game). The first hit will come directly at Dracula but after that it is anyone's guess.

He is also assisted by his minions, using them to keep Dracula distracted and occasionally as ammo. You cannot hit the jailer with front on attacks due to his heavy armour. You can however hit him from the side or the rear. The three main ways of dealing damage to this guy are perfect blocks, dodging his charge (and whaling on his exposed buttocks) and dodging repeatedly to the side and behind him. Take out the minions quickly so you can concentrate on the jailer and use whichever one of those strategies that works best for you.

Once the jailer is done for (after enough smacks on the rear) he will give you a key.

Diary: Offer your blood (a red glowing light on the floor) for the second door to the left of the key podium and inside to the right is the soldier.

The key activates the nearby podium and allows you to open one of the archways. Inside is a river of fire with a narrow bridge to the left of the pillar and a grapple point to a ledge on the right. Head to the small ledge on the right and use the grapple point to leap on top of it. The huge chain to your right can actually be climbed (yeah, took me a while to work that one out as there are no prompts or indicators in plain sight). The chain moves faster as you climb so speed is essential if you don't want to die repeatedly. Climb up (jumping to increase your speed) to the top grapple point on the left. Now repeat the same process but downwards this time on the left chain. Make sure to jump off before you get too low.

Keep traveling along the chain of grapple points until you reach a trio of large chains. Keep in mind that you can jump back and forth to slow down a chain that is going too fast. You need to reach the top so climb as high as you can and then switch back and forth to slow the chains and climb higher. At the top of the leftmost chain you can jump off onto a ledge with bones strewn about (unique in this place I know).

Cross the ledge and look at the pipes shooting up lava fueled flames. Your job is to cross these, keep moving and head for any pipes that have just finished flaming to advance. Once you reach the other side you will trigger a cut-scene.

Once the scene is over (and you get your fill of The Grudge recollections), head forward until you reach a large pit in the floor.

Life Gem: Before entering the pit, jump around the left side to reach the pain box.

Drop down to the pit below and engage the four minions that appear. These guys can throw poison bottles at you, swing their clubs and hunker down to shield themselves. Use area attacks to keep them stun-locked or just target and finish one at a time until all four are done. Once they are, head to the far side of the put and climb up to the upper area once more.

Diary: Directly in front of you as you exit the pit is a soldier

Move along and use the green oil slick looking device. This device generates platforms which allow you to cross the fiery chasm. Generate three platforms in a straight line and the bridge will connect. Cross over to meet the chupacabra. Does anyone actually trust this guy? Only about as far as you can throw him. Now it's time to build some bridges. Head back down to the device on the chupacabra's side and retract the panels. Create a straight line to the platform on the left, cross over and then create one that is an L shape to the left to cross to the large doorway. Pll the lever on the side wall to lower the cage containing the chupacabra. Head back to the only bridge device you can reach and create a zig-zag (one forward, one right, one forward) to reach the opposite platform.

Void Gem: From this platform, take the bridge left and then straight backwards to reach a pain box.

Send the bridge left until it reaches the cave to bring it towards you. You then need to send it to the opposite platform. Cross to that once you are done and then move the cage into the glowing golden opening device. The chupacabra will be released and will open the huge gate blocking your path. He will also leave at this point to get ready to open his shop for your perusal later.

Head through the gate and offer your blood to the seal. This will cause the platforms to rotate into a bridge allowing you to cross (and then retract as you pass over them). Take the path up the left staircase and observe your next destination. Before that however, you will have to contend with three winged harpies that want you very much to die. Ground based attacks will not work due to their flying nature.

They have a few attacks, a spinning ground swirl, a simple swipe with their spear, a projectile attack and a long ground gouging unblockable attack that slices in a straight line towards you. Timing your blocks and evasion against these enemies is quite difficult and they have quite a large amount of health. If possible, concentrate on bringing down a single harpy, as each one you do will make the fight much easier. Use your single target chain attacks in short bursts (one or two hits then dodge to the side) or void sword to deal some damage and stay alive.

Once all three are no more, climb up to the chain bridge spanning the gap between you and the massive structure.

Diary: Once you reach the chain bridge you will see the body in front of you.

Cross the chain bridge and prepare to fight three more harpies. They are just as powerful and as annoying as before so keep up your dodges and one two hits to get through. Also aim for completing finishers when you can to get some much needed health back.

Once that onslaught is dealt with, hop onto the nearby pillar and travel along the chain of grappling points to another wide open area. Ah, a gate machine and you have no key. Can you see what's going to happen? Two jailers (without the heavy front armour) will appear in the center of the area. Due to their lack of armour you can hit them from any direction but they have gained some more attacks due to not carrying around an extra ton of metal.

They can now do a shock-wave AoE by jumping in the air as well as a projectile swing attack. They also gain an unblockable flail madly attack that covers large areas due to the size of the arc. Concentrate on one at a time, keep your dodges consistent and you should be able to chain these guys and easily come out on top. The only real danger is if they get you in a corner and you have to fight the camera as well as them.

Use one of your newly acquired keys on the device nearby to open the iron gate. Head inside to the altar and activate it. It locks the door behind you but creates a spiral staircase going down around the edge of the room. Follow the path down

Diary: At the bottom of the staircase against a wall is the body.

You can also drop down through the hole in the wall to the right at the base of the stairs and use the second key you found for 2000xp. When you are ready, head out to the large chamber to confront Medusa (subtle wasn't it?). Huh, I nearly believed I'd get out of here without a boss fight. Silly, silly me.

Boss: Gorgon

AttacksChaos Claws Tutorial

Spit Shot: The gorgon will quickly lean forwards and spit a projectile that turns into a damaging puddle of liquid when it connects. Dodge to the side to avoid the projectile and then dodge again to avoid the puddle.

First things first, use your newly acquired chaos powers (RB) to break the wall down that the gorgon constructs. During this tutorial, until you destroy the wall she will use simple projectile attacks. Once the wall is down the battle begins.

Attacks – Phase 1 (All previous attacks included)

Ground Pound: The gorgon raises her arm and quickly pounds the ground towards Dracula's position. If you are too close and cannot dodge away in time this attack will inflict a fair bit of damage. This is her quickest and hardest to dodge attack, so learning her movements for it is crucial on harder difficulties.

Nail Scrape: The gorgon flings her arm out and will slowly scrape the ground in front of her in an arc. Due to the sluggishness of this attack it is easy to dodge or even just run away from. However, she can scrape in both directions so keep this in mind.

Tentacle Slap: If you approach the tentacles at the rear of the area, occasionally one will fling itself at Dracula. They are quite slow so as long as you are moving they shouldn't hit you.

Now that the rumble is really underway there are a few things to keep in mind. To aid survivability in this fight, you can attack the tentacles in the area to get a chain up and regenerate your void power. Then use the void power to slash away at the tentacles, replenishing your health. This strategy can keep you alive even on the highest difficulties (as long as your reflexes are good). Same can be done for chaos power if you need it. Don't bother trying to chain off the gorgon as her attacks are far faster and can be annoyingly hard to judge at times. Now for the boss, to damage her you need to jump attack. She does retaliate pretty fast though so you will pretty much only get around three hits most of the time before she moves to smack you down.

Use your single target whip attacks (and guillotine if you are confident) to bring her health down. Her attacks are easy to learn (although due to their speed, occasionally hard to dodge). Keep replenishing on the tentacles and damaging her until she recoils away from you and a QTE circle appears. Press any face button as the rings cross and you will dodge her wild swing. Her hand will get stuck in the ground for a few seconds.

Swap to your void sword and use your ice projectile to freeze it solid. This allows you to jump onto her arm with the grapple points that appear. As you climb she will try to scrape you off (causing damage). You can actually dodge out onto her fins to avoid the scratch. Move upwards until she frees her arm. Now you have to jump across to the first face. Dodge her scratches and climb aboard. Only to be promptly eaten. Well that backfired… Oh wait, guess not. Tap the QTE button to lift up the massive jaws and pull the gorgon to the ground. Rush up to her face and pound away until it disintegrates and move on to the next phase.

Attacks – Phase 2 (All previous attacks included)

Stone Gaze: The gorgon will lean forwards and her eyes will glow. When this happens, a green circle will appear on the floor of the area and continually move towards Dracula's position. Keep moving and dodging away to avoid this attack (it is pretty slow). If you do get caught, you will be encased in stone and have a QTE to break free while the gorgon tries to attack you.

This phase is very similar to the first except for two things. She has an additional attack (stone gaze) and the climbing sequence plus QTE is slightly different. Keep up your patten of damaging her and healing yourself until she has two thirds of her red health bar left. She should recoil and then try to smash you again. Succeed in the ring QTE and freeze the hand once again. The climbing sequence is the same until she frees her hand, so make your way up.

At the top, the head may retract into the mass of tendrils so you could have to jump back and forth avoiding the scraches until it emerges. When it does, jump across to it and get ready for another ring QTE. This one is quite quick so keep a look out. Once you succeed, one final thing needs to be done. The gorgon will rear back and prepare to bathe the area in flames. Swap to your void sword and fling an ice projectile down her gullet to finish the fight.

Once the battle is over and you have your second primordial gem you can now throw chaos bombs at orange glowing points. Try it out on the point the camera zooms in on to reveal a door above. Use the gorgon's arm to climb to the upper level.

Void Gem: In an open hole in the wall is the pain box

Keep moving along the walkway and fill up on void and chaos power at the font. Use the grapple points at the end to reach the upper floor. This path takes you out to a set of stairs with a device at the base. When you operate it, a bridge will form and the green door will open. Cross the bridge beyond to run into a jailer and his minions again. This should be pretty easy now that you've had to fight him a few times. Just keep in mind that you can use your new chaos powers to break his and his minion's armour, making them much easier to finish off. Grab the key once you are done and slot it in the machine nearby. Open the door and travel back along the rotating platform path.

On the other side a cut-scene will assault you and you will learn about the store. Buy anything you need and head for the exit. Before you leave you will be given the dragon talisman. Once you have it, hop in the elevator and ride on up. At the top, a glowing blue pot will yield up the Kliedos artifact that allows you to undertake challenges. If you want to you can return to the shop and the mirror within to try them. Otherwise, head to the wolf altar to summon your spirit guide. Jump up the nearby ledge and follow the wolf back to the present day. Head out into the car park and use the elevator to reach Zobek's offices. Watch the interrogation and get ready to head out again.
