A master of the forge, Torbjörn uses his hammer to build upgradeable turrets, while providing fire of his own with his trusty rivet gun. A powerful addition to any Defensive strategy.
Rivet Gun: A weapon that can either shoot hot rivets with solid range, or a flush of molten metal at close range.
Forge Hammer: A relatively weak weapon, but primarily an upgrade too for your turrets.
Build Turret: An autonomous turret that tracks enemies independently, firing at them with impeccable aim. Turrets can be upgraded to add a second barrel.
Armor Pack: An armor boost that either he or his teammates can take advantage of to soak up a bit of the oncoming fire.
Molten Core: His forge overheats, armor surrounds him and his Rivet gun gains a massive damage boost. With his ultimate, Torbjörn can also build and upgrade turrets much faster. The turret is also significantly more powerful in this mode.
Torbjörn is best reserved for playing defensive objectives, as his poor mobility proves problematic when attempting to chase down a payload or run to an objective. Instead, he is best used to defend points on the map where is mobility is less of an issue. Fortunately, his rivet gun has a fair DPS and though it has both drop off and damage reduction at longer distances, it's an incredibly useful weapon at mid-close range skirmishes. You have to play to Torbjörn's strengths, and the best way to do this is through preparation. Secure a point and build a turret, then upgrade it to level two. When the enemies start to zone in on your position, make sure you're close to your turret but not immediately next to it. Stay mobile and fire at enemies with your rivet gun as your turret autotargets and begins dismantling the health of enemy players. it's best to attack from opposing sides of a small area, as the dual streams of fire will force your enemy to either focus on either you or the turret, leaving them open to attacks from the other. You also want to continually repair your turret when you have some breathing room, ensuring that when the next enemy comes near, you'll have a better chance to eliminate them. Turret placement is paramount when defending, and placing one in the wrong place can be extremely innefective. Try to place a turret in a location that is safe from long range fire, and while put your enemy between your team and the turret. Verticality can be your friend here as well, as a Turret plaace high up can leave the enemy team confused as to where they are recieving fire from.
Torbjörn also continually collects scrap left on the field, and can use this to create an armor boost for either himself or his teammates with the Armor Pack ability. Staying close to your team while defending your objective is your best strategy, as you will want the aid of your teammates (or at the very least additional targets for your enemies) on the field while you defend.
Place your turret at an opposing side from where your team will be firing from. This forces a dual attack line and can easily eliminate groups of enemies.
Roadhog: His slow movement makes him an easy target for Torbjörn’s turret, his short range of fire also make it difficult for him to dismantle a well-placed turret.
Reinhardt: At a fairly slow speed, he can be an easy target for a smart Torbjörn player. Setting up a turret on an opposite side forces Reinhardt to use his shield on it while Torbjörn can use his Rivet Gun to deal damage from a safe distance.
Tracer: Though she has a very limited health bar, her speed, and Blink ability allow her to easily close in on Torbjörn and his turret. Pair this with her pulse bomb and the turret, then Torbjörn is easily dispatched. With Molten Core, you can heal yourself and protect your turret, giving you enough time to eliminate her.
Hanzo: With Hanzo’s slow movement speed, he is an easy target for Hanzo. Pair this with a Scatter Arrow, and it’s possible for Hanzo to eliminate Torbjörn before he can finish building his turret. The best way to counter this is to simply take cover and place your turret outside of cover, continually repairing it from safety.
Real Name: Torbjörn Lindholm
Occupation: Weapons Designer
Base of Operations: Gothenburg, Sweden
Affiliation: Overwatch (formerly)
At its height, Overwatch possessed one of the most advanced armaments on the planet, which could be traced to the workshop of an ingenious engineer named Torbjörn Lindholm.
Before the Omnic Crisis, Torbjörn had gained notoriety for designing weapons systems used by countries around the world. However, his belief that technology must serve a better vision for humanity put him at odds with his employers, who desired to control his weapons using networked computer intelligence.
Torbjörn had a deep mistrust of sentient robotic intelligence, and while many of his peers wrote this off as paranoia, his worst fears were realized when the robot populations of the world turned against their human creators during the Omnic Crisis. Because of his engineering genius, he was recruited to join the original Overwatch strike team, and his many inventions proved integral to ending the crisis. In the years that followed, Overwatch became an international peacekeeping force, and Torbjörn remained a critical resource for all of its technological needs and signature weapons systems.
But in the aftermath of Overwatch's fall, many of Torbjörn's weapons were stolen or stashed away around the world. Feeling responsible for his creations, Torbjörn is determined to stop them from falling into the wrong hands and wreaking havoc on the innocent.
