Story 12 – Broadcast

STORY 12 – Broadcast

Note: You will be dealing with large amounts of infected during this mission and also searching areas with large numbers of undead present. This makes the camouflage and if you can get it, stealth kill abilities priceless in this mission.

Use sewer tunnels to reach the Radio Tower

Ugh, sewers again? I know it wants to be all logical and stuff (less people would be present in the sewers during the outbreak, thus less infected) but give us a break. Make your way across town once more, using ziplines to speed things up where you can until you arrive at the marked metal gate.

Enter the sewers

Open it up and follow the linear path after the marker, looting as you go. At the end you'll reach the door that leads to the sewers.

Find the underground path to the Radio Tower

You'll start off in a room full of pipes. Follow the linear series of corridors until you run into a barricade you need to scramble over. Drop down and a little further on you'll walk into a four way tunnel intersection.

And yep, your suspicions are correct. If your 'shit's about to go down' mental warning light isn't pinging like mad right now, you've no sense of pacing. After hearing Crane say "Is that a kid? No way." Anyone in their right mind would want to slap him in the face and say "It's a shrieker dumb-ass! Obviously." Sorry, just had to get that out of my system.

Pay attention to the wooden crates here, as you can climb onto them in a pinch. Pull out a pistol or rifle and try to open the partially ajar door to the West to confirm our worst fears. Once you back away and regain control, Pick off the shrieker in the small room. Unfortunately it's not going to stop the onrushing horde, just reduce it's numbers by stopping reinforcements.

Watch the viral markers begin popping up on the map all around you. If you have the camouflage ability, quickly bring one down if you can and you can deal with the rest safely.  Everyone else will need to scramble for a crate and try to stomp their heads or engage them in melee. After around ten or twenty seconds, biters will begin joining in the fun and more virals will continue pouring into the area as well.

The virals seriously hurt here, so make sure to back away when you take too much damage and heal up with medkits. A certain amount of time into the fight, a demolisher will break through the corrugated iron barrier to the South and join the party. This is the point any sane individual throws their hands into the air and says "screw it." Before sprinting through the new gap and away from almost certain death.

Thankfully the demolisher is slow and is unlikely to follow you as you race up the tunnel. You will probably need to deal with any remaining virals though at this point. After the virals trailing you are dead, er… Dead squared? Dead twice over then. Use the metal wheel next to the cover of the tunnel on the right or left to open it up and dart inside.

In the next room, descend through the hole in the grating and move along the tube until you can see the next room ahead. Players with good eyesight will see multiple toads placed around the room. Pull out your pistol or rifle and pick them off. You should be able to get at least two from your safe perch. For the last couple, just rush down and slash them up with your melee weapon (being careful not to hit a red barrel, fly sixty feet in the air and disperse yourself over a wide area).

Your next step is to reach the catwalks overhead and pass through the open door with an exit sign above it in the South corner. Hopefully by now you have the grappling hook, making this a doddle. Otherwise you'll need to work your way up to them the old fashioned way.

Climb the stairs beyond and as you reach the top, you'll see five or so viral arrows on the map. With camouflage, this is simply a walk, walk, snap and then repeat experience. Players without this ability will need to try and engage the virals alone if possible and keep moving to avoid being flanked.

After that, you can climb another set of stairs and open a door to finally reach the exit of the sewers and a scene. Yay!

Jump down

Look carefully to spot the pile of garbage below before and make sure to aim for it as you fall if you don't want to end up as a pancake. When you land, wait for the conversation to play out and listen to Crane's justified annoyance at Savvy.

Search the containers for the access card

This objective is one of the biggest shining moments in the game for camouflage, making life very difficult if you don't have it. The idea is to run up the main roads to the first marked site, killing biters and renewing your undeadscreen when you need to. Those without will need to try and avoid the roads and use their grappling hook or just keep moving to make their way up to the site.

When you get to the first site, you'll find two goons standing watch (remember, camouflage doesn't work on them so keep your distance) and several biters chowing down. You'll need to search the office here (both floors), to find out that the card isn't at this site and you'll need to go to the next one. If you are determined to kill the goons, jump to the top of the office area and headshot them both repeatedly until they are dead.

Use the same tactics as before to make your way to the second site. Oh, joy of joys! Two demolishers are waiting to say hello when you reach it. Great. These guys are worth bringing down as they will continue to throw rocks at you otherwise.

The best place to fight them is from the top of the two stacked shipping containers. The angle they throw from will make their rocks hit the container, not you. You can also ignore them and search all the shipping containers (drop through the holes on top of them) for the card.

I found it in the shipping container at the North wall of the site (your results may vary), along with a shotgun and some shells.

Enter the power substation

Travel to the top of the hill using your selected movement style and start clearing away the biters, virals, toads and goon (yeah, variety!) from the substation area. You need to get inside the shack in the middle of the area that the toads are standing on.

Turn on the transformer

Open the door inside to gain access to the control panels for the substation. Rip the casing open and power up the transformer for the radio tower outside.

Turn on the control panel

The control panel can be found on the side of the elevator shaft at the base of the radio tower. Run past the goon and flip the switch. A lift should fall and smash a hole in the metal wire of the shaft for you to enter through.

Hook up the amplifier before the bombing

The place you need to reach (as you may have surmised) is on top of the Radio Tower. You can safely ignore the goon at the base by skirting around him and entering the elevator shaft through a hole made by the fallen elevator in the middle of the tower base.

Start climbing up the shaft, looking for a hole in the side you can exit through. Your grappling hook won't work in climbing this tower unfortunately, so you'll need to rely on the old parkour skills once more.

I honestly can't really talk you through the middle section of the tower, as when I tried to climb out to the outer uprights, I fell off and was spawned higher up the tower. Maybe that will work for you, I can't really say. Update: I've replayed the section since, the missing to continue climbing from where I fell in the video, look carefully for a piece of rope dangling from the outer red bars (yes, all the way out on one of the corners/ legs of the tower), you can just jump to the red leg with it on and continue climbing from there.

On the level with small catwalk planks leading out to panels, you can jump out onto the grey panels on the North side of the tower to climb up (you will need to repeat this later in your ascent).

The next level up has a set of metal clad power cables with yellow and black paint in the center of the level. Climb up this and jump upwards to the next platform when the cables change direction.

Directly in front of you is a small platform you can climb onto. Turn around to see yellow and black bars you can make your way upwards on, moving left and right to avoid the obstacles in the way.

You'll stand up on another flat section with four or so biters playing dead. Immediately start kicking them off the tower and killing any that manage to stand up. The grapple ability can also help here.

After the level is clear, climb up the ladder and look for the yellow and black bars on the floor above. Climb up them to reach another small outer platform. You'll need to use the grey side panels like you did earlier and then climb the yellow and black bars to continue making your way upwards.

After all that, you'll finally reach the level containing the control box. Open it up and swap the circuit boards for a scene.

Return to Old Town through the tunnel

Once you regain control, hook on to the zipline at the North-West corner of the Radio Tower and start your descent. Of course things never go smoothly. Once you land in the water, splash and splutter your way to shore.

The door you want lies inside the tunnel, so don't try to climb the mountain looking for it (like I did). Follow the marker, open the door to the side rooms and travel along them to re-emerge at the other side of the tunnel. A few biters (some with weapons) will be waiting here, but you can simply move past them or use camouflage to get by.

A goon will be guarding the exit at the far end, so run past him or get rid of him to scuttle through. Walk through the new side area and reenter the tunnel at the far end. Walk past or kill a few more weapon wielding biters and climb over the truck at the end of the tunnel.

Follow the side area once more and at the end you'll find a manhole. Drop down the chute into the water and swim along the trench. Climb up the ladder and open the door directly ahead of you to finally head back to Old Town.

Contact Dr Camden

This will happen automatically and afterwards, the mission finally ends.
