Weapons

PISTOL

Obtained: Chapter 2

Base damage: Low

Range: Medium

Recoil: Medium

Base magazine: 6

Base held ammunition: 10

This is your staple gun for the majority of the game. Focus initially on getting critical rate to at least 20% as this will allow you to one shot enemies far more often by hitting them in the head for critical damage. Next work on maxing out you bullet stock as this is one of the most used weapons during the game. Afterwards you can upgrade whichever parameters suit your playstyle.

AGONY CROSSBOW

Obtained: Chapter 3

Flash Bolt: Blinds enemies allowing you to deal a stealth kill while they are blinded. Doesn't deal direct damage but can be useful if fully upgraded.

Harpoon Bolt: Can pin enemies to walls. Despite this, it is not very useful, so only use this when you are running low on ammo.

Poison Bolt: Can poison enemies with a small burst of gas that remains for several seconds on the ground. Not useful, ignore this one.

Incendiary Bolt: Very useful in specific situations, but expensive. Works very well against the shrieking beast.

Explosive Bolt: Your bread and butter for the crossbow. Great against clusters of enemies and even bosses. This one is worth upgrading if you have the goo to spare.

Shock Bolt: Useful for slowing down fast enemies or killing enemies in watery areas. Situational, but handy at times.

Freeze Bolt: Especially useful against the Keeper and larger enemies. Keep a few on hand for tense encounters.

SHOTGUN

Obtained: Chapter 3

Base damage: Medium

Range: Low

Recoil: Medium

Base magazine: 4

Base held ammunition: 4

One of the staples of the horror genre. The shotgun is always a useful weapon to have that combines very well with knockdowns and matches for tougher enemies. Unlike the pistol, raising critical can be ignored in favour of pure damage if desired for knockdown kills. Follow it up by maxing out stock to keep the shotgun ready for any situation. Doing so really pays off against fat haunted and two headed haunted later in the game.

SNIPER RIFLE:

Obtained: Chapter 6

Base damage: High

Range: High

Recoil: Medium

Bolt action (will automatically zoom out and eject the casing after each shot)

Base magazine: 5

Base held ammunition: 5

The only real long range weapon in the game. This weapon makes popping heads extremely easy (even against masks) and even works well against some bosses. The ammo isn't common but isn't rare either, so use it when needed but not constantly to keep the supply up to it. Critical damage is a pointless upgrade for this weapon, but pure damage and stock are worth purchasing early.

MAGNUM

Obtained: Chapter 11

Base damage: High

Range: Medium

Recoil: Medium

Base magazine: 6

Base held ammunition: 6

One of the strongest weapons in the game, the magnum is an accurate weapon (if fired properly). Due to it's impressive stopping power, it works extremely well on nearly every boss in the game. Unfortunately, there are two drawbacks. The lateness of obtaining the gun and the rarity of the ammo for it. My advice is to conserve your ammunition for the final chapter of the game for one particular boss battle. You'll be glad you did. Increase damage to make it even more of a monster and stock to hold the few bullets you find.

DOUBLE-BARRELED SHOTGUN

Obtained: DLC code

Base damage: High

Range: Low

Recoil: High

Base magazine: 2

Base held ammunition: 4

This weapon can only be obtained from preorder DLC and acts as a swappable version of the regular shotgun. It has a higher base damage compared to the regular shotgun but cannot be upgraded. It can be handy to have if you empty the regular shotgun. You still have two shots left to spare.

MACHINE GUN

Obtained: Completion reward

Base damage: Medium

Range: Medium

Recoil: High

Base magazine: 40

Base held ammunition: 200

Unlocked after clearing the game on survival difficulty. This weapon has a large magazine size, but the recoil and firing animation makes it difficult ro aim consistently. Useful for groups or large enemies.

ROCKET LAUNCHER

Base damage: High

Range: Medium

Recoil: High

Base magazine: 1

Base held ammunition: 30

The most powerful weapon in the game with a massive blast radius. This weapon works great against bosses and large enemy clusters. Due to the rarity of ammo however, it shouldn't be used on lone and/ or weak enemies.
